U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District to host ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Cleveland Harbor East Breakwater Repair Project

Buffalo, New York—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a media event commemorating the completion of the Cleveland Harbor East Breakwater Repair project, Monday, December 5 at 3:00pm at the Forest City Yacht Club located at 5301 North Marginal Road, Cleveland, OH 44114.

Speakers for the event include:

  • Representative for U.S. Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge, OH-11-D

  • Representative for U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, OH-9-D

  • LTC Adam Czekanski, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District Commander

Repair work to the approximately 4,400 linear feet of breakwater began in the beginning of June 2015. The work was completed by Great Lakes Dock & Materials L.L.C., Muskegon, MI and includes the placement of armor stone as well as 18,259 precast 6.5-ton dolosse. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District took on the project to repair the approximately $31 million worth of damages caused by Superstorm Sandy, October 2012.

Bulk commodities that pass through Cleveland Harbor generate about $1.7 billion annually in direct revenue while supporting approximately 15,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs that produce over $1 billion per year in personal income.  

Weather permitting, the event may be moved outdoors to a location in better view of the project site.
