Work continues to protect Lake County Raw Water Pump Station

Published March 18, 2019

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District continues to deliver construction solutions to prevent erosion to 600 feet of Lake Erie shoreline that is threatening the Lake County Raw Water Pumping Station in Painesville, OH.

Projecting the pump station is essential because it provides approximately 40,000 Lake County residents with clean drinking water.

Work began in February, through a $3.4 million contract to Huffman Equipment Rental, East Lake, OH, and is expected to continue be completed later this year.

"This project has been a great team effort,” said Randy Rothlisberger, Lake County Sanitary Engineer. “The success of this project was only possible with the effort of the Army Corp and our elected officials working together with Lake County.  We are excited about the progress and we look forward to seeing it completed this spring.  There is nothing more important to life than a clean and safe water supply."

"I'm pleased that this critical project continues to move forward," said Congressman David Joyce, R-OH 14th District. "This is a great example of federal and local agencies coming together to produce results that directly benefit our community. I was proud to work alongside Lake County and the Army Corps to get this project off the ground last year and look forward to continuing my support until we get it across the finish line."

“Every American should have access to clean drinking water, so we are pleased to move dirt on this project for the residents of Lake County,” Lt. Col. Jason A. Toth, USACE Buffalo District Commander.  “Investing in our Nation’s infrastructure is always money well spent, and this project is an example of the Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works mission facilitating a better quality of life, and at the same time improving the environmental health of Lake Erie.  We appreciate the continued support of Lake County Utilities, the local elected officials, community, and our congressional members.”
