Published June 3, 2016

Lt. Col. Adam Czekanski will assume command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District from outgoing commander Lt. Col. Karl Jansen.

The formal change of command ceremony will take place June 7 at 10:30 a.m. aboard the USS Little Rock located at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, One Naval Park, Buffalo NY.

"I am truly honored to have been selected to serve as the next commander of the Buffalo District,” said LTC Czekanski.  “This organization is highly respected throughout the community and the Corps of Engineers for their engineering expertise, technical competence, and commitment to public service.  I am very appreciative of this opportunity to serve with the men and women of the Buffalo District and I look forward to working together to solve our Nation's most challenging problems."

“It has been a distinct privilege to serve as the 72nd commander of the Buffalo District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,” said LTC Jansen.  “The people of our district are among the finest Americans I have had the honor of serving with and I commend them for their extraordinary contributions to public service. Since 1857, Buffalo District has proudly served the people and the watersheds of Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. Reliable for their character, competence, and positive 'can-do' attitude, our people make things better for our fellow citizens by enabling economic prosperity, assuring national security, and protecting our vital natural resources - a true noble purpose.”

The change of command is a time-honored Army tradition dating back before the Civil War, and emphasizes the continuity of command and unit identity, despite changes in individual authority from one officer to another.
