  • Corps of Engineers Rangers Honored for Lifesaving Rescue

    Two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Rangers were awarded the Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal for a lifesaving rescue of an elderly hiker on New York’s Finger Lakes Trail. The 71-year-old hiker wandered off the trail in the 4,000-acre Mount Morris Recreation Area in early October and called the Mount Morris Dam for help.

    Cloud-based Modeling Helps Engineers Predict Coastal Climate Impacts

With more shoreline than any other U.S. coast, infrastructure and property along the Great Lakes takes a beating from waves every year – especially in winter.

  • Phosphorus Optimal Wetland Demonstration Project opens doors to educational opportunities 

    On a warm and sunny day in September, sixth graders from three schools in Defiance, Ohio joined a team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, the City of Defiance, the Defiance Soil and Water Conservation District, General Motors, and the U.S. Geological Survey to experience a hands-on tour of the GLRI funded Phosphorus Optimal Wetland Demonstration Project (P-Optimal).

    Buffalo District Regulators Host the NCNE Wetland Delineation Refresher Training

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District Regulatory Branch brought together 27 Regulatory Project Managers for a NCNE Wetland Delineation Refresher Training with a focus on Atypical and Problematic Situations. Instructors Doug Kapusinski, Tina Stonemetz from the Stow Regulatory Field office lead the two-day classroom and field training, June 14-15, 2023.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District Regulatory Branch brought together 16 partners from different federal government agencies around the country to earn their certification in Northcoast Northeast Wetland Delineation through a four-day classroom and field training course, May 1-4, 2023.
