• An Environmental Assessment/Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) was completed in October 2003.
• Plans and Specifications were finalized in February 2005.
• The bid was awarded on 17 May 2005 and physical construction commenced on 5 July 2005.
• The project is currently on schedule for a Fall 2006 completion.

Niagara Falls Border Patrol Station Expansion
Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), the predecessor to Department of Homeland Security (DHS), came to the Buffalo District in 2000 requesting services to award and manage the renovation and expansion of a Border Patrol station in Niagara Falls, NY. The plans and technical provisions for this project were completed by an A/E under contract to INS. The INS had no in-house capability in the local area to proceed with the project. The Buffalo District managed this work for them.
Key Information
• Phase I (Oct 2000-Jul 2001) work consisted of renovating and expanding an existing 800-SF building and 4-car garage. Work included conversion of the garage to office space and holding areas, and renovation/expansion of approximately 1,700-SF. Construction was residential type, slab-on-grade, wood or metal frame, brick veneer exterior walls. Project also included replacement/extension of paving and parking areas and landscaping
• Phase II (Oct 2001-Aug 2002) work consisted of an addition of approximately 4,100-SF of new garage and locker room area, partitions, doors, mechanical/electrical modifications, security and interior finish. Building utilities were modified/extended to provide additional heat and air conditioning and heated garage space for four vehicles. Also included were additional outside parking and landscaping.
Chicago Shoreline 37th to 40th Street,
40th to 41st Street, and 41st to 43rd Street Projects
Project Description
Buffalo District performed the design, prepared contract plans and specifications, and provided construction support to Chicago District for the Chicago Shoreline 37th to 40th Street, 40th to 41st Street, and 41st to 43rd Street projects. These three projects involved over 5,500 feet of shoreline wall consisting of sheet pile and concrete promenade and steps, a 15 acre land expansion into Lake Michigan, drainage swales and berms, two piers/groins 200 and 600 feet out into Lake Michigan, a 950 foot long submerged rubblemound breakwater, a new 1,000 foot long sand beach, asphalt bike paths, concrete walks, drainage structures, tree plantings, and new turf.

Key Information
• Buffalo District worked closely with its customers including the Corps' Chicago District and City of Chicago agencies such as the Department of Environment and the Chicago Park District. The City of Chicago had numerous standards and requirements that had to be properly incorporated into the projects.
• The 37th to 40th Street and 41st to 43rd Street projects have been constructed on schedule and within or under budget, $22.5M and $7.7M, respectively.
• The 40th to 41st Street project is currently under construction, awarded in June 2005 for $16.9M.
