Corps of Engineers Releases Proposed Plan for Former Linde Site BUFFALO, NY - (5/4/06) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District (the Corps), has released the Proposed Plan for the Groundwater Operable Unit at the former Linde Site, Tonawanda, NY, for public review and comment. The document summarizes groundwater investigations conducted to address historic activities related to the former Manhattan Engineer District/Atomic Energy Commission during the 1940s. It also presents the Corps preferred "No Action" alternative for site use. Since there are no exposure pathways to a human or environmental receptor, the No-Action alternative is, therefore, protective. The Town of Tonawanda provides a municipal water supply service and has a vast abundance of fresh water supplied by the Niagara River. Naturally occurring salts and solids in the deep groundwater aquifer prohibits use without treatment. A public meeting is scheduled for June 13, 2006, at 7:00 p.m., at the Holmes Elementary School, 365 DuPont Avenue, Tonawanda, NY, 14150. Supporting documents and the Proposed Plan may be found at the Tonawanda Public Library, 333 Main Street, Tonawanda, NY, 14150, the Administrative Record files location for the Linde Site. The Proposed Plan is also available for viewing online at: http://www.lrb.usace.army.mil. Written comments may be sent to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District Comments must be postmarked no later than June 30, 2006.
