Major Michael R. Darrow reported for duty as the Deputy District Engineer in July 2002. As Deputy District Engineer, he functions as chief of staff and is first line supervisor for human resources, logistics, finance, counsel, contracting, safety, information management, public affairs, internal review, management analysis, and equal employment. He also servers as the primary interface with the local Federal Executive Board, conducts public meetings and acts as the District Commander in the Commander's absence.
Major Darrow served as a program manager for the Deputy Chief of Staff, Engineer, Eighth United States Army, Yongsan Garrison, Seoul Korea prior to his current assignment.
A native of Cleveland, New York, Major Darrow has held numerous command and staff positions during his military career including platoon leader, executive officer, and battalion personnel officer, 10th Engineer Battalion, Kitzingen, Germany; assistant operations officer and company commander, 299th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado; company commander, 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado, and Assistant Professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Clarkson University and a Masters of Engineering in environmental engineering from Cornell University. His military education includes the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Armor Officer Advanced Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course, and the Army Command and General Staff College. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Achievement Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (with Bronze Star), Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.
