Buffalo District Mount Morris Dam Park Rangers Kayak Patrol
Mount Morris Dam Natural Resource Specialists, Juliana Smith and Steve Winslow performed a patrol through a segment of the Letchworth Gorge via kayak to visually inspect federal property for signs of trespass, encroachment, or environmental degradation at Letchworth State Park in New York. During the patrol they were able to positively identify two plants that are NYS endangered or threatened species including butterwort and yellow mountain saxifrage. Monitoring the health of "special status species" habitat is part of the environmental stewardship mission at the Mount Morris Dam, and a particularly rewarding part of the job for park rangers and natural resource specialists.
