    April 29, 2013, the 68th anniversary of 2nd Lt. Pioli’s liberation. Family, neighbors and friends gathered around to join in celebration at his Devola, Ohio, home. There was a surprise guest: Cong. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta. He presented Pioli with a U.S. flag that had flown over the nation's capitol in Pioli's honor.

    When World War II ended, Nazi Germany held nearly 95,000 U.S. military personnel; Japan held almost 15,000 Americans. 2nd Lt. Robert L. Pioli, U.S. Army Air Corps, father of Buffalo District Safety Specialist William Pioli, was one of those 95,000.

  • Congratulation to the first place winners from Buffalo Public School 195, City Honors, in the "March Movie Madness Competition" sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District. The students were invited to the District to have pizza with the District Commander LTC Owen Beaudoin and talk about their movie, what they have learned and to receive recognition for their outstanding video, March 27, 2013.

    The month of November is designated by Congress and the president as a time to reflect on the rich traditions and accomplishments, as well as the suffering and injustices, that mark the history of American Indians and Alaska Natives. This year's theme chosen by the Society of American Indian Government Employees is "Serving Our People, Serving Our Nations: Native Visions for Future Generations." In our commemoration of National Native American Heritage Month, the Buffalo District will host Mr. John Kane (Mohawk) who is the host of WWKB 1520AM’s Let’s Talk Native radio program, 27 November 2012. Lunch was catered by Rhonda Powless of Iroquois Kitchen.

  • Team members from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District, talked to students at SUNY Buffalo State College during a networking event, hosted by the Buffalo State Career Development Center, as part of Hispanic Heritage month, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.     Corps Employees Team Up to Teach a Lesson in Networking

    Special emphasis programs are sometimes celebrated with food tastings, exhibits and presentations. This year, however, Laura Ortiz, Hispanic Program Manager for Buffalo District, and Judy Phillips, Equal Employment Opportunity Officer, decided to try something different and do something off of the reservation to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

    Mission not impossible: responding to disaster

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District is part of a broad Planning and Response Team, a special team of individuals who respond to disasters like flooding and hurricanes within days of the end of a disaster.
