    USACE Buffalo District holds project delivery stand down

    Imagine you were just entrusted with a huge project and you want to deliver the best product you can; what do you do? The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is always asking this question with every project we are entrusted with by our nation. In order to perform at our best, Buffalo District recently held an off-site project delivery business process stand down meeting.
  • Buffalo District employs risk management and systems approach executing the Braddock Bay ecosystem restoration project

    Two years ago, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District began a $10 million project to restore the Braddock Bay ecosystem in Greece, NY. Erosion had washed away emergent wetlands and invasive species dominated the marshes. Today, species-rich native communities blossom with emergent aquatic meadows, and restored beach habitat are visited by a variety of shorebirds including black-bellied plover, Baird’s sandpiper, and the federally endangered piping plover.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District’s hydrographic data will soon be integrated with E-HYDRO software, allowing the district to catalog, organize and distribute navigation-related data efficiently and effectively.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District has two employees, Greg Kiaer and Melissa Tarasiewicz, who were selected for, and graduated from the USACE’s Engineer Research Development Center University (ERDC-U) program in 2018.
  • Port Clinton Ecological Restoration: Another Success for GLRI

    U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District Biologists, Eric Hannes, Christine Cardus, and Kathleen Buckler along with a team of Biologists from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) led by Linda Merchant-Masonbrink and Angela Adkins performed pre-construction wetland assessments on 12 acres of an existing wetland, as part of the Great Lakes Fisheries and Ecosystem Restoration (GLFER) Authority Project.

    Hydrilla Invasive Aquatic Plant Control: Buffalo District Becomes Regional Technical Experts

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has a highly skilled workforce that has been completing hydrilla surveys and herbicidal treatments in multiple locations since 2012 when hydrilla was initially found in the Finger Lakes region and the Erie Canal in Western New York (WNY).
  • Buffalo District’s Temporary Crane Barge Completes Load Test in Ashtabula Harbor

    Through the consistent, progressive efforts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District employees, the old derrick boat “McCauley” has been converted to a crane barge, and was returned to service upon the successful completion of a load test, October 16.

    Braddock Bay Restoration: The last piece of the Rochester Embayment AOC puzzle

    To address the gradual loss of a historic barrier beach and the erosion of over 100 acres of wetlands at Lake Ontario’s Braddock Bay, a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative project team has implemented Engineering With Nature principles to provide a sustainable restoration solution. This project completed the last management action necessary for the future delisting of the Rochester Embayment Area of Concern.
  • New BFDF Building Underway

    The LRB Special Project Branch was retained by Immigration & Custom Enforcement (ICE) to initially prepare site planning/Charrette level documents for the construction of an office building to alleviate over-crowding within the ICE law department, otherwise known as Office of the Principal Legal Advisor or OPLA. The new office space required offices, cubicles, conference room and mechanical/IT rooms. Multiple building solutions were presented and evaluated over a six-month period. A stand-alone building in a vacant area adjacent to the newly constructed warehouse proved to be the most economical solution to the problem.

    Canandaigua VA Medical Center Mega Project will deliver vital healthcare services to veterans

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Veterans Affairs are partners in delivering the Canandaigua VA Medical Center Mega Project, providing a state-of-the-art medical facility and health care service infrastructure to approximately 65,000 veterans living in and around the greater Canandaigua, NY area.
  • Setting the stage for future beneficial use of dredged materials in the Great Lakes

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District began implementing an innovative project for aquatic ecosystem restoration along the Niagara River in summer 2018 by using a resource that is abundantly available to the agency: dredged sediment.
  • Two lives saved by USACE Buffalo District employees this summer

These values encourage Army civilians to be ready to help in a moment’s notice, on or off duty.
