The Continuing Authorities Program establishes a process by which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) can respond to a variety of water resource problems without the need to obtain specific congressional authorization for each project. This decreases the amount of time required to budget, develop, and approve a potential project for construction.
Under the Continuing Authorities Program, the USACE is authorized to construct small projects within specific federal funding limits. The total cost of a project is shared among the federal government and a non-federal sponsor(s). An overview of each of the authorities is available in the Continuing Authorities Program Brochure. The links below provide a summary of each Continuing Authorities Program and offers a sample letter request to initiate a study for each authority.
