Lake Level Information

Lake Erie and Ontario Water Levels:

  • Weekly Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Level and Flow Statements – These statements are also available by calling toll free at 1-800-833-6390. This service is provided in support of the International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board by the Buffalo District Corps of Engineers. The statements are updated each week.

Weekly Lake Erie Update

As of March 17, 2019 the mean water level on Lake Erie was 573.09 feet (174.68 m). The long term average for the month of March is 571.12 feet (174.08 m).

The water level relative to chart datum for the following locations was: 

Toledo 4.0 feet (1.23 m)
Cleveland 3.9 feet (1.19 m)
Erie 3.9 feet (1.18 m)
Buffalo 3.7 feet (1.12 m)

The Lake Erie mean outflow was 244,400 ft3/s (6920 m3/s).

Weekly Lake Ontario Update

As of March 17, 2019 the mean water level on Lake Ontario was 245.96 feet (74.97 m). The long term average for the month of March is 245.01 feet (74.68 m).

The water level relative to chart datum for the following locations was: 

Ogdensburg 2.1 feet (0.64 m)
Cornwall 3.3 feet (1.02 m)
Summerstown 2.3 feet (0.69 m)
Pointe Claire 4.8 feet (1.46 m)
Port of Montreal 5.1 feet (1.54 m)

The Lake Ontario mean outflow was 306,200 ft3/s (8670 m3/s).
